Mama Ngina, a staunch Catholic Christian who never had any European saint name attached to her as traditionally demanded for in the traditional Roman Catholic Church. She maintains her name as Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the mother of the Nation. She was the 1st First Lady and maintained her title even after the demise of the husband. A title Lena Moi never grabbed when her husband succeeded the First President and the father of the nation. After the announcement of the husband’s sudden death on 23rd of August 1978, Mama Ngina moved from the mother of the nation to the mother of an empire.
A mother of four children: Christine Wambui; Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta; Anna Nyokabi Muthama;and Muhoho Kenyatta. Surprisingly, only her daughters bear Christian names, Christine and Anne; both boys have their African names. Is this by default or design? A question worth 1 million dollars!
The daughter of Chief Muhoho is now the mother of the Kenyatta’s empire and living a very quiet life. She’s one of the personalities both in Kenya and in Africa.
