SOCIAL MEDIA VERSUS PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

THERE MUST BE UNDERSTANDING ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA
There is no doubt that social media have become means for the public to get to know certain things and share opinion. It is the only public participation gadget available to many people through mobile phones, computer and other digital devices. Bloggers are free and independent journalists whose free ideas, opinions and views are shared through the internet. Social journalism lacks professionalism and institutional structure. Users are not usually trained in journalism or media. However, most of such bloggers make important views concerning the governments and policies. A trend that makes governments fierce with the social media. The bloggers tend to insist only on the bad things governments are doing…in other words, they are playing activists and whistle blowers as well. Does this make social media anti-social and bad profession? I doubt this very much. Due to the technology of communication and information and human rights of freedom of expression and opinion, it is illegal to prohibit citizens from sharing their ideas on the social media. It is in violation of the freedom of expression to arrest bloggers or gag them. The best governments should do is to get into dialogue with social media users and do what is right.
Should governments restrict social media? Should security agencies arrest or even shoot social journalists? All these restrictive measures have not worked anywhere in the world. It only shows how intolerant governments become to free opinions. Well, it is illegal and unethical to do propaganda, defame someone, say things with no evidence and proof, incite the public. or go against national laws. It is wise to do what is right, legal and ethical.
